Prost

Prost Grand Prix was the Formula 1 team of four-time World Champion Alain Prost, created in 1997 when the legendary French driver bought the Ligier team and renamed it after himself, carrying the hopes of French motorsport.

Despite the prestige of its owner, the team enjoyed mixed fortunes. There were flashes of promise and podium finishes, notably with Jarno Trulli, but also persistent struggles with competitiveness and finances, and an ill-fated engine partnership with Peugeot.

Mounting debts overwhelmed the team, and Prost Grand Prix went bankrupt and folded at the start of 2002, a disappointing end to a great champion's ambition to run his own team.

Prost Grand Prix is a reminder that even the greatest drivers can find team ownership a different and harder challenge. Alain Prost's venture ultimately faltered, but his attempt to build a French team around his own name remains a notable, if bittersweet, chapter in the sport's history.
