About Duane Carter

Duane Carter, an American driver born in 1913, is credited with ten World Championship starts between 1950 and 1960, all of which came at the Indianapolis 500, the race that counted toward the Formula 1 World Championship during that period. Across the decade he appeared in cars from five different American chassis builders: Stevens, Deidt, Lesovsky, Kurtis Kraft and Kuzma.

Carter's strongest results came in the early 1950s. Driving a Lesovsky in 1952 he scored three points and was classified fifteenth in the championship, then took two more points in a Kurtis Kraft in 1953 for thirteenth overall — his best championship finish. He added a further point and a half in 1954, and his career record includes one podium finish.

After 1955 Carter's name vanished from the entry lists for several years before he returned for final appearances in 1959 and 1960, closing out a championship career of six points spread across a full decade of Indianapolis competition.
