About Jimmy Daywalt

Jimmy Daywalt, an American driver born in 1924, made seven World Championship starts between 1953 and 1959, every one of them at the Indianapolis 500, the event that counted toward the Formula 1 World Championship throughout the 1950s. He first qualified for the race in 1953 at the age of twenty-eight.

Daywalt was closely associated with Kurtis Kraft machinery, driving the marque's roadsters in five consecutive championship appearances from 1953 through 1957. His record also lists the Nichels chassis among his equipment.

After missing 1958, he returned for a final Indianapolis appearance in 1959. None of his seven starts brought championship points, but seven qualifications for the Memorial Day classic across seven seasons was itself a mark of consistency in one of motor racing's most competitive fields.
