About Giorgio Scarlatti

Giorgio Scarlatti was an Italian driver who made twelve World Championship starts spread across six consecutive seasons from 1956 to 1961. Born in 1921, he was in his mid-thirties when he debuted with Ferrari, and he went on to drive for five different constructors without ever securing a full-time seat.

The bulk of his career was spent in Maserati machinery, and it was with the Modena marque in 1957 that he scored his only championship point, placing him twentieth in that year's standings — a worthwhile return under a system that rewarded only the top finishers.

His later years brought scattered appearances with Maserati through 1960 and a final start for the small De Tomaso-Osca operation in 1961. He also appears in the records with Cooper-Climax and Cooper-Maserati. Twelve starts, one point and six seasons of intermittent entries make his career typical of the Italian privateer ranks of the late 1950s.
