Bill Vukovich

Bill Vukovich was an American driver born in 1918 whose five World Championship starts, made between 1951 and 1955, all came at the Indianapolis 500, which counted toward the Formula 1 World Championship from 1950 to 1960. He drove a Trevis on his 1951 debut before switching to Kurtis Kraft machinery for the remainder of his career.

His record is remarkable for its concentration of success: two wins from five starts, giving him a 40 percent win rate, along with one pole position and 19 championship points. The victories came in consecutive years, 1953 and 1954, earning him seventh and then sixth place in the World Championship standings despite contesting only a single round each season.

Vukovich's 1952 and 1955 appearances each yielded a single point. Few drivers in the championship's records converted so few starts into so much silverware, and his win rate stands among the highest of any driver from the era.
