Jaguar Racing carried one of Britain's most evocative automotive names into Formula 1 in 2000, when Ford rebranded the Stewart Grand Prix team it had bought. Expectations were high for the green cars, but success proved elusive.

Despite the glamour of the Jaguar badge and significant Ford backing, the team struggled with instability and underperformance through five seasons, managing only a couple of podium finishes. Behind the scenes there was frequent management upheaval.

Ford sold the team at the end of 2004 to Red Bull, which transformed the same Milton Keynes operation into the championship-winning Red Bull Racing, meaning Jaguar's facilities became the foundation of a future dynasty.

Jaguar's Formula 1 spell underdelivered on track, but its true legacy is what came next: the Milton Keynes team it left behind became Red Bull Racing and one of the most successful operations of the modern era. Jaguar is thus a crucial, if underappreciated, link in one of the sport's great lineages.
