Marussia

Marussia was the identity adopted from 2012 by the team that had entered Formula 1 as Virgin Racing, following investment from the Russian sports-car maker Marussia Motors. The team continued to compete at the back of the grid as a determined minnow.

Marussia's defining moment came at the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix, where Jules Bianchi finished ninth to score the team's first and only championship points, a hugely emotional result for the small squad. That achievement was overshadowed later in 2014 by Bianchi's terrible accident at Suzuka, from which he tragically later died.

Financial difficulties pushed the team into administration at the end of 2014, though it survived in modified form to continue as Manor.

Marussia's story is one of plucky determination touched by tragedy. Jules Bianchi's points finish at Monaco remains one of the most emotional underdog achievements of the era, and the team is remembered with affection and sadness as part of one of the sport's most poignant recent chapters.
