Phillips

Phillips was an American constructor whose Formula 1 record stems from the Indianapolis 500, which counted towards the Drivers' World Championship from 1950 to 1960. Its cars contested the great American oval race between 1954 and 1960, when the Brickyard sat on the championship calendar alongside the European road courses.

While victory eluded it, the team reached the podium 1 time and scored points on a number of occasions, marking it out as a credible competitor on its best days. These results were achieved at the Indianapolis 500 during its time as a championship round.

Drivers to appear for the team included Don Branson, Don Freeland and Bob Veith.

Phillips belongs to a fascinating and often overlooked chapter of Formula 1 history, the decade when the Indianapolis 500 formed part of the World Championship. Its presence in the record books reflects the unique period when American oval racing and European Grand Prix racing shared a championship, however loosely.
