Don Freeland

Don Freeland, an American driver born in 1925, made eight World Championship starts between 1953 and 1960, all of them at the Indianapolis 500, which counted toward the Formula 1 championship throughout that period.

Freeland was a fixture of the race across those eight consecutive appearances, driving Watson, Phillips and Kurtis Kraft machinery over the years. His best season came in 1956, when a podium finish earned him four points and fourteenth place in the World Championship standings.

That 1956 result accounts for his entire points tally: his career record closes at eight starts, one podium and four points, the mark of a consistent Indianapolis competitor whose peak coincided with the middle of the race's decade on the Formula 1 calendar.
