About Élie Bayol

Élie Bayol was a French driver who competed in the World Championship between 1952 and 1956, making seven starts across five seasons. Born in 1914, he was already in his late thirties when he made his debut with OSCA.

After two seasons with the small Italian OSCA concern, neither of which brought points, Bayol joined the French Gordini team in 1954. That year proved his best: he scored two championship points and was classified twenty-first in the Drivers' Championship — a solid return under a scoring system that rewarded only the top finishers.

He continued with Gordini in 1955 and 1956 without further points before his championship career came to an end. His record of occasional appearances rather than full campaigns was typical of the French national racing scene of the mid-1950s.
