Gordini

Gordini was a French team and engine maker, founded by Amédée Gordini, who earned the affectionate nickname 'le Sorcier' (the Wizard) for his ability to extract performance from modest resources. The team flew the French flag in the early 1950s.

Operating on a famously tight budget, Gordini nonetheless produced competitive cars on occasion and scored points and podium finishes against much wealthier rivals, with a roster of leading French and international drivers passing through the team.

The relentless cost of front-line competition eventually forced Gordini to abandon its own team, and Amédée Gordini went on to a celebrated career tuning engines for Renault.

Gordini embodied French racing ingenuity, doing remarkable things with minimal means and earning its founder a wizard's reputation. Though its own team could not endure, the Gordini name lived on through its celebrated engine work, leaving a lasting legacy in French motorsport.
