About Hans Binder

Hans Binder, an Austrian driver born in 1948, made thirteen Formula 1 starts across the 1976 and 1977 seasons. He debuted with Ensign in 1976 at around 28 years of age before spending the 1977 season primarily with Surtees.

Over his career he was associated with four teams — Ensign, Penske, Surtees and Wolf — a scattered pattern of drives typical of a driver moving between available seats in the crowded mid-1970s grids.

Neither of his two seasons produced championship points, and he went unclassified in the standings both years. With points awarded only to the top six finishers, the midfield and back-of-grid teams he drove for offered few realistic scoring opportunities.

His Formula 1 career closed after 1977 with thirteen starts to his name, making him one of the several Austrian drivers who reached the championship in that decade without breaking through to the points.
