Penske Racing's Formula 1 venture in the 1970s was a characteristically professional effort from the American team owned by Roger Penske, whose organisation would become a colossus of motorsport in the United States.

Run from a base in England, the team competed for several seasons and achieved a notable victory when John Watson won the 1976 Austrian Grand Prix in a Penske PC4, a popular triumph for the well-drilled American operation. It was the team's only Grand Prix win.

Penske chose to withdraw from Formula 1 to concentrate on its hugely successful programmes in American racing, where 'The Captain' would build one of the most dominant dynasties in the sport.

Penske's brief Formula 1 chapter produced one famous win and showcased the professionalism that would make Roger Penske's organisation a giant of American motorsport. Though Grand Prix racing was not its long-term focus, the team's Austrian victory remains a proud entry in its vast record.
