About Vittorio Brambilla

Vittorio Brambilla, an Italian driver born in 1937, competed in Formula 1 from 1974 to 1980, making 74 Grand Prix starts for March, Surtees and Alfa Romeo. He was a late arrival at the top level, debuting at thirty-six.

His defining season was 1975 with March, when he took his only pole position and his sole Grand Prix victory, finishing the year eleventh in the championship with a tally of six and a half points. It was the clear peak of his career, and the win gave him a place among the small group of Italian Grand Prix winners of the 1970s.

Brambilla spent three seasons with March before moving to Surtees for 1977 and 1978. His first Surtees year brought six points, matching his best season's haul, though without the headline results of 1975. He remained a regular points threat in an era when only the top six scored.

His final two seasons, 1979 and 1980, were spent with Alfa Romeo and yielded no points, bringing his career total to sixteen points, one win, one podium and one pole from seven seasons of racing.
