The 1979 Season

Ferrari returned to the top in 1979, with South African Jody Scheckter winning the drivers' championship and the team taking the constructors' crown with the 312T4. Scheckter narrowly held off his spectacular teammate Gilles Villeneuve, who loyally followed team orders at the Italian Grand Prix.

Villeneuve's flamboyant, fearless driving made him a fan favorite even as he finished runner-up. It would prove to be Ferrari's last drivers' title for 21 years.
