About Jimmy Bryan

Jimmy Bryan, an American driver born in 1926, appears in the Formula 1 World Championship record through the Indianapolis 500, which counted toward the championship from 1950 to 1960. He made nine starts between 1952 and 1960, driving Kurtis Kraft, Schroeder, Kuzma and Epperly machinery.

His record is a strong one by the standards of the Indianapolis contingent: one win, three podiums and eighteen championship points. The victory came in 1958 in an Epperly, a result that placed him thirteenth in that year's World Championship standings, while earlier points-scoring runs in 1954 and 1957 with Kuzma cars had brought tenth and sixteenth places respectively.

With a win rate above eleven per cent and three podiums from nine starts, Bryan ranks among the most successful of the American oval-racing specialists whose results counted toward the Formula 1 championship during the 1950s. His final appearances came with Epperly in 1959 and 1960 as the Indianapolis 500's decade within the World Championship drew to a close.
