About Lance Macklin

Lance Macklin, a British driver born in 1919, took part in 13 World Championship Grands Prix across four consecutive seasons, from 1952 to 1955.

The bulk of his career was spent with HWM, the small British team he drove for in 1952, 1953 and 1954. For his final season, 1955, he switched to Maserati machinery.

Macklin never scored a World Championship point. In the early 1950s that was the common lot of much of the field: with only a handful of finishing positions rewarded under the scoring system of the day, points were concentrated among a few dominant works teams.

His record therefore reads as 13 starts, four seasons and two teams, without wins, podiums or poles — three years in British HWM machinery followed by a final season in an Italian Maserati.
