Sergio Pérez

Sergio Pérez, widely known as "Checo," is a Mexican racing driver and one of the most successful Latin American competitors in Formula 1 history. Born in Guadalajara in 1990, he reached F1 with Sauber in 2011 and announced himself with a series of giant-killing podiums for the team. After a season at McLaren, he built his reputation over several strong years with Force India and its successor Racing Point as a wily, tyre-saving racer.

His breakthrough came when he won the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix for Racing Point, a result that helped earn him a seat at Red Bull. Alongside Max Verstappen he played a key role in the team's dominance, finishing runner-up in the 2023 championship and supporting back-to-back constructors' titles, taking six career wins and 39 podiums in total before his Red Bull tenure ended after 2024.

After a year away from the grid in 2025, Pérez returns to Formula 1 in 2026 with the new Cadillac team alongside Valtteri Bottas. As the squad finds its feet as a new entrant, he sits near the back of the field after the opening rounds, bringing his vast experience to help establish the project.

Pérez is celebrated for his exceptional tyre management and ability to make long stints work, a skill that produced many of his finest results from unlikely positions. Calm and opportunistic, he has long been one of the most popular drivers on the grid, particularly in his native Mexico. His move to Cadillac adds a proven race winner to one of the sport's most ambitious new ventures.
