About Troy Ruttman

Troy Ruttman was an American driver born in 1930 who is credited with nine World Championship starts between 1950 and 1960, a record highlighted by a victory in 1952. Making his first appearance at just twenty years of age in a Lesovsky, he was among the youngest drivers on any championship entry list of the early 1950s.

The 1952 season was the pinnacle: driving a Kuzma, he took a win and eight points, enough for seventh place in the World Championship standings despite contesting only a fraction of the calendar. He added a point and a half in a Kurtis Kraft in 1954, bringing his career total to ten points.

His later appearances came with Kurtis Kraft and Watson chassis through the second half of the decade, and in 1958 he made a one-off appearance in a Maserati — his only start in European-style Grand Prix machinery. His final championship outing came in 1960, closing a decade-long record of nine starts, one win and an 11.1 percent win rate.
