Ken Wharton

Ken Wharton was a British driver born in 1916 who competed in the Formula 1 World Championship from 1952 to 1955, making sixteen starts across four seasons. He raced for a different team each year: Frazer Nash in 1952, Cooper in 1953, Maserati in 1954 and Vanwall in 1955.

His debut season proved his most successful. Driving the Frazer Nash in 1952, he collected three points and finished thirteenth in the World Championship — a solid return in an era when points reached only the first five finishers.

The following three seasons brought no further points despite the variety of machinery, including a spell with Maserati and a year with the emerging Vanwall operation. That he was taken on by four different constructors in four years nonetheless speaks to a driver in steady demand.

Wharton's championship record ended after 1955 with three points from sixteen starts, all of them earned in his first campaign.
