André Pilette

André Pilette, a Belgian driver born in 1918, had a Formula 1 career of unusual length and shape, with eleven starts scattered across five seasons between 1951 and 1964. He drove for five different teams: Talbot-Lago in 1951, Connaught in 1953, Gordini in 1954 and 1956, and finally Scirocco in 1964.

His scoring season came with Gordini in 1954, when two points earned him nineteenth place in the championship. Under the scoring system of the 1950s, with points awarded only to the top five finishers, that result stands as the clear high-water mark of his record.

What distinguishes Pilette's career is its span. Thirteen years separate his first start from his last, with an eight-year absence between his 1956 Gordini outings and his 1964 return with Scirocco, by which time he was in his mid-forties.

Eleven starts, five teams, and two points across a career stretching from the championship's second season into the mid-1960s make his one of the more intermittent records of the era.
