Lorenzo Bandini

Lorenzo Bandini, an Italian driver born in 1935, competed in Formula 1 from 1961 to 1967, making 44 starts and establishing himself as one of Italy's leading drivers of the decade. After a debut season in a Cooper-Maserati in 1961, his career became closely tied to Ferrari, for whom he drove in five of his seven seasons, with a single year at BRM in 1963 in between.

His finest season came in 1964, when he won a Grand Prix for Ferrari, scored 23 points, and finished fourth in the World Championship, the best classification of his career. That victory was the centrepiece of a record that also includes eight podium finishes and a pole position.

Bandini remained a consistent scorer through the mid-1960s, taking thirteen points for sixth in the 1965 championship and twelve points in 1966. In total he accumulated 58 points, a substantial haul under a scoring system that rewarded only the top six finishers.

With one win, eight podiums, and four consecutive seasons inside the championship's top twelve between 1963 and 1966, Bandini's record marks him as a genuine front-runner of his era.
