Peter Gethin

Peter Gethin, a British driver born in 1940, competed in Formula 1 from 1970 to 1974, making thirty starts across five consecutive seasons. His career took in McLaren, BRM and Lola, and included one Grand Prix victory.

He debuted with McLaren-Ford in 1970, taking a single point in his first season. The following year was comfortably his best: in 1971 he scored nine points, took his only win, and finished ninth in the World Championship — his highest final classification.

A move to BRM followed for 1972, where he added one further point, before a pointless 1973 with the same team. His final season, in 1974, was spent with Lola and likewise brought no score.

Gethin's career total of eleven points and one podium is modest on paper, but his 1971 victory — the only one of his thirty starts he converted into a win — ensures his place among the select group of British Grand Prix winners of the early 1970s.
