The 1972 Season
Emerson Fittipaldi became the youngest World Champion to that point, winning the title at 25 for Lotus in the iconic black-and-gold John Player Special 72. The Brazilian took five wins and outscored a field weakened by Jackie Stewart's mid-season illness.
Lotus also secured the constructors' title, continuing Colin Chapman's run of success with the 72 design. Fittipaldi's youthful charisma helped open up Formula 1 to a new generation of fans in South America.
