About Toulo de Graffenried
Toulo de Graffenried, a Swiss driver born in 1914, competed in the World Championship from its inaugural season in 1950 through to 1956, making twenty-two starts. Most of his career was spent in Maserati machinery, with a single season for Alfa Romeo in 1951.
Already in his mid-thirties when the championship began, he went unscored in 1950 before his Alfa Romeo year brought two points and seventeenth in the standings. Back with Maserati, his best season came in 1953, when seven points lifted him to eighth place in the World Championship — his highest final classification.
His appearances thinned thereafter: 1954 passed without a score, and after missing 1955 he made a final outing in 1956, closing a seven-year championship span.
With nine career points gathered across two of the era's Italian marques, de Graffenried was among the most experienced of the early-1950s independents, one of the few Swiss drivers to feature regularly in the championship's founding years.
