About Luigi Musso

Luigi Musso, an Italian driver born in 1924, competed in the Formula 1 World Championship from 1953 to 1958, making twenty-six starts and scoring forty-four points, with one victory and seven podium finishes. His career divided neatly between two great Italian marques: Maserati from 1953 to 1955, then Ferrari from 1956.

After a pointless debut season, Musso became a regular scorer, taking six points in both 1954 and 1955 with Maserati. His move to Ferrari in 1956 brought his sole Grand Prix victory in his first season with the Scuderia.

The 1957 campaign was his finest: sixteen points and third place in the World Championship, the best classification of his career. He remained with Ferrari in 1958, adding twelve points and finishing eighth in the standings in what proved his final season.

Seven podiums in twenty-six starts made Musso one of Italy's leading drivers of the mid-1950s, a consistent front-runner for both Maserati and Ferrari during the fiercest years of the championship's first decade.
