About Carlos Pace

Carlos Pace was a Brazilian driver, born in 1944, who competed in Formula 1 from 1972 to 1977, making 72 starts and scoring 58 championship points, with one victory, six podium finishes and one pole position.

Pace entered the championship with March in 1972, scoring three points as a rookie, then spent two seasons with Surtees in 1973 and 1974, improving his points tally in each year. Midway through the decade he joined Brabham, and 1975 proved the peak of his career: he took his only Grand Prix win that season and finished sixth in the World Championship with 24 points.

He remained with the Brabham organisation for the rest of his career, driving its Alfa Romeo-powered cars in 1976 and continuing into 1977, adding points in both campaigns.

Across six seasons Pace was a consistent scorer for midfield and front-running teams alike, and alongside his win he collected six podiums and a pole position — a record that placed him among the leading Brazilian drivers of the mid-1970s.
