Tim Schenken

Tim Schenken is an Australian driver who made thirty-four World Championship starts across five consecutive seasons from 1970 to 1974. Born in 1943, he debuted at twenty-six with the small De Tomaso operation before earning a seat at Brabham for 1971.

That Brabham season was the strongest of his career: five points, a podium finish, and fourteenth place in the drivers' championship. It stands out sharply against the rest of his record, achieved as it was under a scoring system that paid only the top six finishers.

He moved to Surtees for 1972, adding two more points, before his final two seasons with Iso Marlboro and then Trojan yielded nothing — both teams among the least competitive of the mid-1970s grid. His career closed after 1974 with seven points and that single podium.

Five teams in five seasons tells its own story: after the Brabham year, Schenken never again had machinery capable of reflecting the form he had shown in 1971.
