About HRT

HRT, or Hispania Racing Team, was a Spanish outfit and one of the three new teams that joined Formula 1 in 2010. Chronically underfunded from the outset, it had the unwanted distinction of competing at the very back of the grid throughout its short existence.

The team's debut was so rushed that its cars completed almost no pre-season running and barely qualified for the first race. Across three seasons HRT never scored a point and frequently struggled to make the cut, operating on one of the smallest budgets the modern sport has seen.

Unable to secure sustainable funding, HRT failed to find a buyer and disappeared from Formula 1 at the end of 2012.

Key Achievements

  • One of three new teams to enter Formula 1 in 2010
  • Spain's entry on the Formula 1 grid
  • Competed for three seasons against the odds
  • Gave several drivers their Formula 1 starts
  • Persevered on one of the smallest budgets in modern F1

Legacy & Identity

HRT's brief, difficult existence is a stark illustration of how unforgiving Formula 1 is for an underfunded newcomer. Though it never troubled the scorers, it represented Spain on the grid and gave a number of drivers their chance, a modest footnote in the sport's modern expansion era.
