Andrea de Adamich

Andrea de Adamich, an Italian driver born in 1941, competed in Formula 1 between 1968 and 1973, accumulating 31 starts and six championship points across five different teams. His career took in a notably varied set of machinery: he debuted with Ferrari in 1968, then drove Alfa Romeo-powered cars for McLaren in 1970 and March in 1971 before ending his career with two seasons at Surtees.

The early phase of his career yielded no points. Neither the Ferrari debut season nor the two years spent with Alfa Romeo engines behind McLaren and March chassis produced a scoring finish, a run of three seasons that illustrated how difficult it was to break through in that era without front-running equipment.

The move to Surtees changed his fortunes. De Adamich scored three points in 1972, good for seventeenth in the championship, and matched that tally in 1973 to finish fifteenth, his best classification. Those two campaigns accounted for all six of his career points.

Across six seasons of involvement he never took a win, podium, or pole, but his persistence through several team switches made him a regular presence in the paddock during a competitive period of Formula 1 history.
