About Hans Herrmann

Hans Herrmann, a German driver born in 1928, competed in Formula 1 across eight seasons between 1953 and 1961, making eighteen starts for six different teams.

After a debut with Veritas in 1953, he was signed by Mercedes, and his two seasons with the German works team were his most successful: eight points and seventh in the World Championship in 1954, followed by a further point in 1955. In total he took one podium finish.

When Mercedes withdrew, Herrmann's career became more nomadic. He appeared for Maserati in 1957 and 1958, Cooper-Maserati in 1959, and BRM at various points, before ending his championship career with Porsche, scoring a final point in 1960.

His ten career points, most of them earned in the Mercedes years, chart the difference between works machinery and the less competitive seats he occupied on either side of that spell.
