Bruce McLaren

Bruce McLaren, a New Zealander born in 1937, competed in the Formula 1 World Championship from 1958 to 1970, amassing 103 starts, four wins, twenty-seven podiums and 196 points across thirteen seasons. He made his debut with Cooper while still in his early twenties.

His first eight seasons were spent with the Cooper organisation. After a pointless debut year in 1958, he took a win in 1959 on his way to sixth in the championship, then produced his best season in 1960, winning again and finishing runner-up in the drivers' standings with thirty-four points. A third Cooper-era victory came in 1962, when he placed third overall, and he remained a consistent scorer for the team through 1965.

From 1966 McLaren raced for the team that carried his own name, running McLaren-Ford and McLaren-BRM entries. The new operation's early seasons were lean, with only three points in each of 1966 and 1967, but the results improved sharply: he won a Grand Prix in 1968 en route to fifth in the championship, and in 1969 he finished third overall with twenty-six points.

His final season came in 1970, when he added six more points. Across a career spanning thirteen consecutive seasons, McLaren finished in the top ten of the championship nine times, a record of remarkable longevity and consistency for the era.
