Brian Redman

Brian Redman, a British driver born in 1937, made twelve Formula 1 starts spread across five seasons between 1968 and 1974, an unusually intermittent career at World Championship level. He debuted at 30 in a Cooper-Maserati, scoring four points and a podium finish in 1968 to be classified nineteenth in the championship.

A gap of three seasons followed before he reappeared with Surtees in 1971. In 1972, driving for McLaren, he matched his debut-year tally of four points and took fourteenth in the standings, the best championship position of his career.

His final two seasons, 1973 and 1974, were spent with Shadow and brought no further points. In all, Redman drove for six different teams — Cooper-Maserati, Cooper-BRM, BRM, Surtees, McLaren and Shadow — across his dozen starts.

Eight points and one podium from twelve appearances, earned in short spells with many teams over seven years, give his Formula 1 record the character of a driver who dipped in and out of the championship rather than pursuing it season by season.
