Marc Surer

Marc Surer, a Swiss driver born in 1951, competed in Formula 1 from 1979 to 1986, making eighty-three World Championship starts across eight consecutive seasons. He debuted with Ensign at twenty-seven and spent his first two years without points, driving for Ensign and then ATS.

His breakthrough came back at Ensign in 1981, when four points earned him sixteenth in the championship. A long association with Arrows followed: he scored three points in 1982, four in 1983 and one in 1984, keeping himself on the scoreboard in three straight seasons with the modest British team.

The best season of his career came in 1985 with Brabham, where five points brought him thirteenth in the drivers' standings, his highest championship finish. He returned to Arrows for 1986, but that final campaign ended without a score.

Surer's career total of seventeen points, spread across five scoring seasons and earned entirely in midfield and back-of-grid machinery under a top-six points system, marks him as one of the persistent, quietly effective journeymen of early-1980s Formula 1.
