John Love

John Love, a Rhodesian driver born in 1924, made nine World Championship starts spread across a full decade, from 1962 to 1972. His entries came intermittently rather than as full campaigns, typically one appearance per season.

Love began with Cooper-Climax machinery, which he drove in 1962, 1963, 1965 and 1967. It was in 1967 that his career peaked: he scored six points and took his only podium finish, results that placed him eleventh in that year's World Championship standings — a remarkable return from a part-time programme.

In the years that followed he sampled a variety of cars, racing a Brabham-Repco in 1968, Lotus-Ford machinery in 1969 and 1970, a March-Ford in 1971 and finally a Surtees in 1972, without adding to his points tally. Across his nine starts Love recorded one podium and six points, all earned in that single standout 1967 season.
