About André Simon

André Simon, a French driver born in 1920, made eleven Formula 1 World Championship starts spread across five seasons between 1951 and 1957. He debuted at thirty-one with Simca, beginning a career notable less for its results than for the variety of celebrated teams it touched.

After his opening season he joined Ferrari for 1952, and following a gap of two seasons he reappeared in 1955 with Mercedes, meaning that within five years he had driven for two of the most successful constructors of the decade. His final two campaigns, in 1956 and 1957, were spent in Maserati machinery, and his career team list also includes Gordini among the French marques of the period.

For all the pedigree of the cars he sat in, the opportunities were scattered, often single appearances rather than full campaigns, and none of his eleven starts produced championship points.

Simon was never classified in the drivers' standings, yet few drivers with so few starts can claim to have raced for Simca, Ferrari, Mercedes, Gordini and Maserati across the span of the 1950s.
