Marina Bay Street Circuit

The Marina Bay Street Circuit, winding through the heart of downtown Singapore, made history in 2008 by hosting Formula 1's first-ever night race. Run entirely under a vast array of floodlights so that European television audiences could watch in their afternoon, the spectacle of cars threading between illuminated skyscrapers and over the Anderson Bridge instantly became one of the most striking images on the calendar.

Held in the equatorial heat and humidity of Singapore, the race is widely regarded as one of the most physically demanding of the season. Drivers can lose several kilograms in body weight over a race that frequently runs close to the two-hour time limit, with the combination of relentless heat, bumpy street surfaces and concrete walls leaving no margin for error.

Singapore has become a flagship event for Formula 1's expansion, blending world-class racing with a festival atmosphere of concerts and entertainment. The original layout was modified ahead of the 2023 race to remove a slow section and improve the flow, but the circuit's character as a punishing, wall-lined night-time test has remained constant.
