Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit

The Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit winds through a public parkland surrounding a lake just south of Melbourne's city centre. A temporary street-style circuit laid out on park roads, it took over the Australian Grand Prix from Adelaide in 1996 and has been the race's home ever since, hosting the event for nearly three decades.

For most of that span Albert Park has served as the season opener, giving fans their first look at the new cars and pecking order each year. Damon Hill won the inaugural 1996 race for Williams, and the circuit has since produced victories for many of the sport's biggest names. The track was significantly reprofiled in 2022 to improve overtaking, with several corners widened and reshaped, and the modern era has delivered winners including Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris and George Russell.

The race was absent in 2020 and 2021, cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but returned to its place near the front of the calendar. Set against Melbourne's skyline and the lake, it remains one of the most scenic and atmospheric venues in Formula 1.
