Maurice Trintignant

Maurice Trintignant, a French driver born in 1917, enjoyed one of the longest careers of Formula 1's first generation, competing in every season from 1950 to 1964 and amassing eighty-six starts. Across fifteen years he drove for no fewer than thirteen teams, including Simca, Gordini, Ferrari, Vanwall, Cooper, BRM and Lotus.

He began with Simca in the championship's inaugural season and scored his first points in 1952. A move to Ferrari in 1954 lifted him to fourth in the World Championship with seventeen points, and he matched that fourth place in 1955, a season that also brought the first of his two Grand Prix victories.

His second win came in 1958 with Cooper, and he followed it with fifth in the 1959 standings driving a Cooper-Climax, his last major championship result. The final years of his career, from 1960 to 1964, were spent moving between Cooper, Lotus, Lola and finally BRM, with whom he scored his last two points in 1964.

Trintignant retired from the championship with two wins, ten podiums, one pole position and seventy-two points, a tally built on remarkable longevity: he was thirty-two when the World Championship began and forty-six when he made his final start.
